  • Marketing Beyond Social Media

In today’s digital landscape, social media platforms have become a cornerstone of marketing efforts for businesses and individuals alike. However, the recent outage of Instagram serves as a timely reminder of the risks associated with relying solely on social media for marketing purposes. I want to walk you through and show you the importance of diversifying your marketing strategy and emphasise the value of email marketing as a reliable alternative.

Don't Put All Your Eggs in One Basket

Social media platforms are undeniably powerful tools for reaching and engaging with your target audience.

However, entrusting your entire marketing strategy to a single platform is a risky endeavour. Diversifying your marketing efforts across various channels provides a safety net against potential disruptions, such as platform outages or algorithm changes.

Harness the Power of Email Marketing

While social media offers broad reach, email marketing remains an indispensable asset for businesses. Building and nurturing an email marketing list allows you to establish direct communication with your audience. Emails provide a more intimate and personalised connection, enabling you to deliver tailored content, promotions, and updates directly to their inbox.

Not only that – should you lose your social media and its following, if you have built up your email list, you can let them know where to find you when you get your account back or recreate a new one!

    Avoid the Spam Trap

Email marketing, when done right, can be a highly effective tool. However, bombarding your subscribers with irrelevant or overly promotional content can lead to unsubscribes and a damaged brand reputation. Respect your audience’s inbox by sending valuable, informative, and engaging content that aligns with their interests and needs. Strive to build a relationship of trust and credibility with your subscribers.

    Safeguard Your Online Presence

How to backup your InstagramAnother critical lesson from the Instagram outage is the realisation that your social media following is not entirely within your control. Platforms can change their policies, shut down accounts, or experience technical difficulties, instantly erasing your hard-earned following. By diversifying your digital presence, including through a website or blog, you can mitigate the risks associated with relying solely on social media platforms. AND if you haven’t done so already, please check out my blog on how to back up and download your Instagram content [you should do this regularly].

While social media platforms offer immense marketing potential, it is crucial to recognise their limitations and invest in a diversified strategy. Cultivate an email marketing list to establish direct and personalised communication with your audience. Respect your subscribers’ inbox by delivering valuable content, ensuring they stay engaged and loyal. Finally, safeguard your online presence by expanding beyond social media, securing a more stable and sustainable marketing approach. By embracing diversification, you can future-proof your marketing efforts and maintain a resilient brand presence in the ever-changing digital landscape.

  • How to Hide and Block Shein Tags & Comments on Instagram

Sick of seeing Shein comments popping up in your Instagram notifications?

Whether it is Shein now or the next annoying spammy bot that comes along, these little tricks are going to help you take back control of your Instagram.

These tricks are tried and tested by me on my own socials but also on my clients and guess what….THEY WORK! So let’s not mess around – let me walk you through the good stuff.

There are a few ways to block these spam bots and pages, but I find Phases One & Two to be the most helpful. If you still are not having any luck [because let’s be honest – bots and AI are getting smarter], then you can move on to Phase Three & Four!

Good luck and let me know how you go.

Let’s get into it – learn how to hide and block spam bots on Instagram below!

Some of my favourite words or phrases to block are

    – You’ve Won

    – You’ve been selected

    – Won

    – Win

    – Shein

    – Click the link

    – Tap on our profile

    PHASE ONE – HIDDEN WORDS

Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
Tap on the three horizontal lines at the top right corner of your profile to open the menu.
From the menu, tap on "Settings and Privacy."
Scroll down and tap on "Hidden Words."
You will see an option called "Manage Custom Words and Phrases"
To add words and phrases, tap on "Add words separated by commas.."
Type the words or phrases that you want to ban in the text box.
Tap "Add" to save your changes.

Once you’ve added banned words, any tags or comments containing those words will be hidden from your posts. Keep in mind that this feature is not foolproof and may not catch every instance of the banned words. It’s always a good idea to review the tags and comments on your posts regularly to ensure they meet your standards.

PHASE TWO – SPECIFIC WORDS & PHRASES

Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
Tap on the three horizontal lines at the top right corner of your profile to open the menu.
From the menu, tap on "Settings and Privacy."
Scroll down and tap on "Suggested Content."
Tap on "Specific Words and Phrases."
To add words and phrases, tap on "Add multiple items separated by commas.."
Type the words or phrases that you want to ban in the text box.
Tap "Done" to save your changes.

This process has been found to be the most successful way to block spam bots from sneaking through. However, keep in mind that they may still find ways to bypass this method.

    PHASE THREE – APPROVING TAGS

You can always approve every tag that comes through, but this is *still* going to drive you nuts. Hopefully you don’t reach this point, but if you do – this is how you deal with it!

Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
Tap on the three horizontal lines at the top right corner of your profile to open the menu.
From the menu, tap on "Settings and Privacy."
Scroll down and tap on "Tags and Mentions."
Tap on "Manually Approve Tags."
Toggle On the Tag Controls "Manually Approve Tags"
There are multiple selections here that you may find that suit your personal situation. Have a read of your options!

    PHASE FOUR – LIMITED INTERACTIONS

I hate that you are still reading this far, but if you *really* need to lock down your profile, follow these steps!

Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
Tap on the three horizontal lines at the top right corner of your profile to open the menu.
From the menu, tap on "Settings and Privacy."
Scroll down and tap on "Limited Interactions."
Read through these details and select "Continue."
Here you can limit interactions from accounts that aren't following you.
They probably aren't your ideal audience if they aren't following you!
Try this as a last attempt to block unwanted accounts if the phases above fail you.

By utilising these four phases, you can control the content on your Instagram profile and stop those pesky Shein or Bot comments from ruining your feed.

Remember to review your tags and comments regularly to ensure they meet your standards.

    Happy Instagramming!

  • How to Back Up Your Instagram

How to backup your Instagram and save your content

YOU NEED TO DO THIS NOW

Unless you are consistently saving your content externally to Instagram [Images, Videos and Captions], you need to be backing up your content regularly.

There is a multitude of reasons why you should do this but let me mention a few.

    1. You can be locked out of your account.

    2. Instagram falls over [technology isn’t always reliable ].

    3. Your account gets hacked.

    4. You enter the age of your business rather than your ACTUAL age, and Instagram decides your account can’t exist any longer. [Yes, this has happened to people].

    Here is what I do!

For many Clients, I keep my captions saved in Google Docs. Not only is this great for searching keywords for posts you may want to repurpose, but you can also keep banks of your hashtags!

I back up their Instagram a minimum of every 2 months.

Whenever I download the new data, I replace the last folder, so it doesn’t take up additional space.

If you are not doing either of these, at a minimum, you should back up your Instagram.

  • How Do I Decide What I Should Outsource to a Virtual Assistant?

Before you dive into working with a Virtual Assistant, I recommend the following steps.

When we start the discovery call, I want to learn about your pain points and where I fit into your requirements.

This exercise will ensure that we are organised from the very get-go!

I want you to be prepared for our Discovery call; imagine what else we can achieve together.

Head to my contact page to book a discovery call via my scheduler.

    Consider these categories

    1. Tasks you don’t know how to do

    – These could be items such as building your email list, creating

     templates, and implementing workflows.

    2. Tasks you hate to do

    – You will know what these are. Whether it’s setting meetings,

the inability to keep on top of your inbox or sending out that

    essential but time-consuming newsletter.

    3. Tasks you don’t have time to do

    – Backend admin is consuming the work hours you could commit to growing your business. Templates, emails, social media, content writing, proofreading, research, and process implementation. The list goes on!

    4. Tasks only you can do

    – This one is just as important because it will showcase items you may need to offload and highlight where you are falling short because you are so busy handling the tasks above.
